This Dealership Remodel was initiated to provide new finishes at the interior and exterior of Kendall Chevrolet in Eugene Oregon. Kendall Chevrolet is currently a multiline facility which means that it sells multiple vehicle brands under the same roof. Currently available brands are: Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and Buick. All areas that were accessible to customers were revised to receive new and upgraded finishes. Minor modifications of the interior spaces were accommodated to improve interactions with, and the overall experience of the customer. The existing exposed ceiling and structure was concealed behind a new suspended ceiling system. Many new LED lights were installed. The existing floor tiles were removed and replaced. The existing exterior public facing siding and entrance tower element were redesigned to allow for corporate approved ACM, (aluminum composite material) siding materials. New electrical vehicle charging stations we installed to accommodate the next generation of electrical vehicles. The general Contractor was Chambers Construction completed the job on time and under budget! Great job chambers!

We experienced many challenges in the execution of this project. The original Bourland Printing building was an existing commercial building in a residential zoned lot. As a result, it was built-out to the property lines on all four corners. The property had no parking. Additionally, the proposed exterior canopy required a revocable permit. The building had Funky Architecture to begin with. There were ceilings at 6′-8″ tall or less, overly steep stairs, and loads of tiny divided spaces. We gutted the building and started to apply our version of Funky Architecture. This resulted in lots of stained plywood panels instead of sheet rock. Lots of existing raw wood left in it’s evolved state with years of incidental graffiti left exposed. Funky Architecture was employed, by design.
The City of Eugene was an active partner in helping us achieve our goals. For instance, they helped us get a revocable permit issued and helped us work thru some challenging code requirements that might have derailed the project. Without the City’s active participation we would not have been able to save this building and it almost certainly would have been replaced by yet another tall student housing or apartment building.
The project Superintendent was David Partlow. David transitioned from 2G Construction to Stonewood construction but maintained his focus as he helped in many ways, including the standard general contractor responsibilities.

Q Sterry is now licensed to practice Architecture in Washington State. A few fun and exciting projects have prompted this move. We are very excited about the possibilities this new opportunity brings. “The business is officially registered, licensed and insured to practice Architecture in Washington State”, says Q with a confident smile. “I’m looking forward to providing services in the greater Seattle area. In fact I’m traveling up there this Sunday to visit a waterfront site for development.” Although the home office is in Eugene Oregon, advancements in technology make coordination with a remote client a snap. Low cost round-trip flights, the I-5 highway, and increased demand for services make this area quite accessible and appealing.

This project was for a freestanding and open covered poolside BBQ patio. The posts are buried deep in the ground in a pole barn manner to eliminate the need for knee braces or other later reinforcement. The BBQ kitchen features a SS sink and BBQ with cultured stone faced cabinets and natural stone counter tops. The soffits were framed and finished with custom LED color lighting and a ceiling fan. The deck patio features colored concrete pavers. Glenn Landscape provided the general contracting and the project turned out beautiful with many extras!
This is a Treehouse deck that is supported on one end by 3 living trees. We used the Garnier limb to support the majority of the deck structure. A partial height screening wall/ railing was used on one side of the deck to create privacy from the street. A cable railing system was used where natural vegetation provides sufficient screening from the street. A Koy pond/ water feature borders the uphill side of the deck and provides the sound of continuous running water for added tranquility. The deck was built with stained cedar/ redwood decking, posts, and handrail which adds warmth and richness.

Treehouse Deck Structure
Custom home design by Q Sterry completed in 2017. This 4,356 sf home features a great room with vaulted ceilings, clerestory windows, indirect LED lighting and expansive panoramic views. The great room opens to an 800 sf, partially covered, southwest facing deck with custom cable rail system and composite decking overlooking the I-5 corridor in the South Willamette Valley. A downstairs recreational room features wet bar, music studio, ping-pong table, pool table, and indirect color accent LED lighting. This house sits at the higher end of 302 beautiful gently sloping acres. Future phases of work are to include a 3-car detached garage with studio above and covered breezeway connected to the house’s mud room/ utility room. The owners wanted the house to blend in with the property so it was not so noticeable from the road. To achieve this goad they chose darker exterior paint colors.
Clients usually want to be heavily involved in the design of their home and this project was no exception. In this case, these (fantastic) clients who wish to remain anonymous, self-performed much of the finish work while the majority of the structure, infrastructure, heavy lifting, and ladder work was performed by Dorman Construction.

100 East Broadway – Eugene Oregon
Here are images of a light exterior commercial renovation to a prominent building located at 100 East Broadway in Eugene Oregon. The existing building was constructed primarily of concrete and built-out to the property line.
The Ipe wood veneer was added to soften the building’s interface with the street and to provide warmth and detailing at a human scale. Canopies were added to help distinguish the entrances and provide weather protection during inclement weather for its users. Columns were enlarged and clad with Ipe to help balance the unnatural perception of a very top-heavy building.
The canopies and wood veneer required a, “revocable” permit. A set of stairs to a basement business was secured with a storefront door and windows, and perforated panels above. The enclosure of the stairs required an, “AMM” (Alternate Materials and Methods) application as the storefront door is required to swing in the direction of egress travel. Typically doors are NOT allowed to swing into the Right-of-way. This was a challenging project but we are happy with the outcome. McIntyre Construction was the general contractor and did a fine job!
Here are a few preliminary design images provided for the Cornerstone Community Housing, Delta Court project.
The project has come to be known as Delta Court and will feature 28 units within 3 2 story buildings. Of these 28 units there will be, (12 studios, (8) 1-bedroom units and (8) 2-bedroom units) within the Santa Clara neighborhood. It will be constructed with the hope of accommodating the un-housed from all walks of life including veterans. This project will feature on-site stormwater retention and rain gardens as required by the City of Eugene. Plans also include provisions for an interactive nature play areas designed by LandCurrent. We hope that our contribution will make a positive difference in our community and help those that are in need of affordable housing solutions.
