Fire Resilient Homes

We have seen heart-breaking destruction from fire. People have become homeless overnight.

Fire threatens more homes than most folks would like to admit. Recent fires in Talent Oregon and Paradise California have made us aware that our homes are not likely to be protected by local fire crews if a fire is started and exelerated by wind. What can we to to better protect our homes? Certainly better planning is required. We might begin to influence our local and regional codes, but the Q Sterry - Inspired Architecture team is here at the front line, exploring and discussing options to consider when upgrading an existing home or building new.

This is a teaser for ideas to explore and discuss. The first of a multi-point blog to explore options to make our homes more fire resilient.

Some of the topics we plan to discuss are:

  • Fire resilient exterior/ materials

  • Eliminating roof ventilation

  • Reducing fuels surrounding homes

  • Tempered glass in ALL windows.

What are some other ideas that you’d like to see discussed?

Let us know your thoughts and stay tuned for blogs to come.
